Story of Joseph for preschoolers
Once upon a time, in the land of Canaan, there lived a young boy named Joseph. He was loved dearly by his father, Jacob, who gave him a coat of many colors. Joseph’s brothers grew jealous of him, and their envy turned into hatred.
One day, Joseph’s brothers plotted against him. They threw him into a deep pit and sold him to traders heading to Egypt. Joseph found himself in a strange land, alone and afraid. But his faith never wavered.
In Egypt, Joseph was sold to Potiphar, the captain of Pharaoh’s guard. Despite being a slave, Joseph worked diligently and earned Potiphar’s trust. However, trouble found Joseph once again when Potiphar’s wife falsely accused him of wrongdoing. Joseph was thrown into prison, but even there, he remained steadfast in his faith.
In prison, Joseph interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker, foretelling the cupbearer’s return to favor and the baker’s demise. Joseph asked the cupbearer to remember him when he returned to Pharaoh, but the cupbearer forgot.
One day, Pharaoh had troubling dreams, and none of his advisors could interpret them. The cupbearer remembered Joseph and told Pharaoh about his gift of dream interpretation. Pharaoh summoned Joseph, who explained that the dreams foretold seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine.
Impressed, Pharaoh appointed Joseph as his vizier, putting him in charge of managing Egypt’s food supply. Joseph stored grain during the years of plenty, which saved Egypt from starvation during the famine.
Eventually, Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt seeking food. Joseph forgave them, and they were reunited with tears of joy. Joseph’s story teaches us about forgiveness, resilience, and the power of faith in God’s plan.
