Chapter 1: The Mysterious Note
Little Blue Truck came down the sunny, winding road. “Beep! Beep! Beep!” he called, his friendly voice echoing between the tall trees. Blue was having a perfect day. First, he waved to Toad sitting on a stone, and then they both heard the gentle “Moo!” of Cow in the field.
Today, Blue was on a special mission. In fact, he had promised to deliver a big sack of shiny red apples to Farmer Dale. The sack was heavy, so his little engine hummed with effort. He was almost there!
However, as Blue reached the ancient, creaky wooden gate of Farmer Dale’s pasture, he saw something strange. Tucked right under the “Big Red Barn” sign was a muddy piece of paper.
Blue stopped. His headlights narrowed with curiosity. “Beep? Beep? BEEP?” he wondered. Immediately, he nudged the paper with his bumper until Toad hopped over and picked it up.
“It’s a note!” squeaked Toad, his big green eyes scanning the looping letters. “It says: ‘The Apples are fine, but where is the secret surprise? Turn left at the lonely tree, by the singing creek…'”
“A secret surprise?” Mooed Cow, looking over the fence. “But Farmer Dale never mentioned a secret!”
Blue felt a jolt of excitement, although a tiny bit of worry came, too. What if this note meant the apples were not enough? Therefore, he thought: Was the secret surprise something he should have brought?
“I don’t know this singing creek,” said Blue, revving his engine nervously. “Nevertheless, I must find out! The note is a mystery, and a mystery must be solved!” So, he turned his little blue tires away from the barn and towards the distant, lonely oak tree.
The secret road was waiting.
Chapter 2: The Singing Creek and the Lost Sheep
Blue Truck drove slowly, his tires crunching on the gravel. He was following the map in his head: left at the lonely tree. The path was narrow and dark, nothing like his bright, sunny road. “Meee-ehh? Meee-ehh?” cried a noise. It was Sheep, and she looked lost!
“What’s wrong, Sheep?” called Blue.
“I can’t find the rest of my flock!” “Baa! Baa!” she panicked. “I followed a strange sound to the lonely tree, and then they were gone!”
Suddenly, Toad pointed to a spot beneath the great oak. “Look, Blue! A small stream! It’s bubbling over the rocks. It sounds like a little song! This must be the Singing Creek!”
But just past the creek, the narrow road was blocked! A fallen log, thick and heavy, lay right across the path. On the other side of the log, Blue could just make out a big, round object. Was that the secret surprise?
Blue had to help Sheep and get past the log to solve the mystery for Farmer Dale. It was too much for one little truck!
“We need help, Toad!” announced Blue. He honked his horn “BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!” loud and long, sending the call across the pasture.
Soon, Goat came running from the hill, and Horse galloped from the track. Pig hurried over from the mud, and Cow plodded into sight. They worked together. Horse and Goat pulled on the log, Pig and Toad pushed, and Blue Truck gave a mighty push with his bumper! “Rrrrumble! Push! Rrrrumble!”
With one final heave, the log rolled away! Blue squeezed past and saw the round object: it wasn’t a toy or a machine, but a giant, perfect water-melon! And right next to it, Sheep’s missing flock!
“The surprise was a party!” Mooed Cow. Farmer Dale was waiting with a picnic. The note was just a fun riddle! Blue had solved the mystery and saved the day, all thanks to his friends! “Beep! Beep! Hoooray!”
