The Queen Esther Bedtime Story

Once upon a time, in the ancient kingdom of Persia, there lived a beautiful and courageous Jewish woman named Esther. Esther was chosen by King Xerxes to become his queen, replacing the former queen, Vashti. However, as time passed, Esther’s true identity as a Jew remained a secret, known only to her cousin Mordecai.

One day, a wicked man named Haman, who held a high position in the king’s court, devised an evil plan to annihilate all the Jews in the kingdom. Consequently, he manipulated King Xerxes into signing a decree that would lead to their destruction. When Mordecai learned of this horrific plot, he sent word to Esther, urging her to plead with the king to save her people.

Initially, Esther hesitated, fearing for her life. After all, approaching the king without being summoned could result in death. However, Mordecai reminded her that perhaps she had become queen for such a time as this. Encouraged by his words, Esther decided to act.

First, she instructed all the Jews in the kingdom to fast and pray for three days. Then, bravely, she approached King Xerxes. To her relief, the king extended his golden scepter, signaling that she could speak. Esther invited the king and Haman to a banquet she had prepared.

At the banquet, Esther revealed her Jewish heritage and exposed Haman’s evil plot. Consequently, the king was enraged and ordered Haman to be executed on the very gallows he had built for Mordecai. Furthermore, the king issued a new decree, allowing the Jews to defend themselves against their enemies.

Thus, through Esther’s courage and faith, the Jewish people were saved, and their enemies were defeated. Esther’s bravery continues to be celebrated during the Jewish festival of Purim, reminding us of the power of faith and the importance of standing up for what is right.
