A Brave Heart

Long ago, in a kingdom ruled by King Darius, lived a man named Daniel. Daniel was known throughout the land for his wisdom and unwavering faith in God. He worked as an administrator in the king’s court and was highly respected by everyone. His faith and dedication, however, made some of the other officials jealous.

The jealous officials devised a plan to get rid of Daniel. They convinced King Darius to sign a decree that stated no one could pray to any god or man except the king for thirty days. Anyone who disobeyed this law would be thrown into a den of lions. King Darius, unaware of their intentions, agreed and signed the decree.

Daniel heard about the new law, but his faith in God remained strong. He went to his room, opened his windows, and prayed to God three times a day, just as he had always done. The jealous officials spied on Daniel and caught him praying. They rushed to the king and reported Daniel’s disobedience.

King Darius was distressed because he liked Daniel and did not want him to be harmed. However, the law was irreversible. Reluctantly, the king ordered Daniel to be thrown into the lions’ den. Before sealing the den with a large stone, King Darius said to Daniel, «May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!»

The den was dark and filled with hungry lions. Daniel prayed and trusted in God. That night, the king could not eat or sleep, worried about Daniel’s fate in the lions’ den.

Divine Protection

As the first light of dawn broke, King Darius hurried to the den. He called out anxiously, «Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?»

To his great relief, Daniel answered, «O king, live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, O king.»

The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. When Daniel was lifted from the den, there was not a single scratch on him because he had trusted in his God. King Darius then commanded that the men who had falsely accused Daniel be thrown into the lions’ den. Before they reached the floor of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.

King Darius wrote a new decree to all the people in his kingdom, praising the God of Daniel. He declared, «I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. For He is the living God and He endures forever; His kingdom will not be destroyed, His dominion will never end. He rescues and He saves; He performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.»

The story of Daniel and the lions’ den spread throughout the kingdom, becoming a testament to the power of faith and God’s protection. Daniel continued to serve King Darius faithfully, and his story inspired many to trust in God, no matter how frightening the circumstances.
