The adventures never stop in the human house! Today, the team faces one of the most mysterious places known to toys: the deep, dark gaps between the living room sofa cushions. When a very important library card goes missing in the “Couch Cushion Caves,” Bao must lead a specialized team into the crumb-filled darkness. Will Crinkle’s paper body and Taba’s sticky powers be enough to retrieve the card before it’s time to go to the library? The Couch Cushion Cave
It was a quiet Saturday afternoon. Adaliz and her parents were in the kitchen baking cookies, leaving the living room completely empty.
Inside the bedroom toy bin, Bao, the perfectly round dumpling squishy, called a special meeting.
“Squishy Society, we have an emergency,” Bao announced, his painted smile looking very serious. “Adaliz wants to go to the library this afternoon to get new books. But her shiny yellow library card has vanished!”
“Where did she lose it?” asked Gumdrop, flexing his heavy purple body.
“The last place she was sitting was the living room sofa,” Bao explained. “I fear the card has fallen into the Couch Cushion Caves.”
A collective gasp echoed in the toy bin. The Couch Cushion Caves were legendary. It was a dark, narrow canyon between the heavy sofa cushions where lost coins, popcorn crumbs, and missing socks disappeared forever.
“We must get it back,” Bao said. “Crinkle, Taba, I need you with me. This is a mission for tight spaces.”
Taba, the pink translucent bear paw, wiggled her sticky fingers. “I am ready!”
Crinkle, the handmade paper juice box, straightened his bent straw. “I might get a little wrinkled, but I will do my best!”
The trio quickly made their way down the hallway, keeping out of sight, until they reached the giant gray sofa in the living room. They climbed the fabric like a mountain, using the rough texture of the couch to pull themselves up until they stood on the edge of the cushions.
Between the two massive cushions was a deep, dark gap. It looked like a bottomless canyon.
“I cannot see the bottom,” Bao said, peering into the darkness. “It is too narrow for me to fit. My dumpling shape is too round.”
“Leave it to me, Bao,” Crinkle volunteered bravely. “I am made of paper and stuffed with soft cotton. I can squeeze into tight places!”
Crinkle turned sideways. He took a deep breath, flattening his rectangular paper body as much as he could, and slid down into the dark gap between the heavy cushions.
Swoosh. Slide.
“It is very dusty down here!” Crinkle called out, his voice echoing from the darkness. “There is a shiny coin… a popcorn kernel… and… I see it! The yellow library card! But there is a problem!”
“What is the problem, Crinkle?” Bao asked from above.
“The card is stuck perfectly flat against the bottom of the couch, and a heavy remote control battery is resting on top of it. I can’t lift the battery! My paper arms are not strong enough, and the card is too slippery to grab.”
Bao thought quickly. They needed strength, but they also needed someone who could grab a flat, slippery card.
“Taba!” Bao commanded. “Your material is ultra-sticky. Can you slide down there?”
“The gap is narrow, but I am very squishy!” Taba chirped.
Taba dived headfirst into the gap. Her soft, silicone body easily compressed, allowing her to squeeze between the tight cushions until she landed softly next to Crinkle in the dark cave.
“Wow, you were right, Crinkle. It is dusty here,” Taba giggled, shaking a crumb off her nose.
Taba looked at the library card. It was trapped under the heavy silver battery.
“We have to work together,” Taba said. “Crinkle, wedge your flat paper corner under the battery and push up. When it lifts just a tiny bit, I will use my sticky paw to grab the card and pull it out!”
Crinkle nodded. He carefully slid the very edge of his paper box body under the heavy battery. “One, two, three… push!”
Crinkle used all his soft cotton stuffing to push upwards. The heavy battery lifted just a millimeter!
Instantly, Taba slammed her sticky pink paw onto the smooth yellow library card. Her powerful stickiness gripped the plastic perfectly. She pulled with all her might! ZIP! The card slid right out from under the battery, and the battery thumped back down.
“We got it!” they cheered together.
But now they had to get out of the deep cave.
“Bao! We have the card, but we need a lift!” Taba shouted upward.
From the top of the canyon, Bao had an idea. He grabbed the edge of a soft fleece blanket that was draped over the back of the sofa and tossed it down into the gap like a rescue rope.
Taba stuck the yellow card to her back, grabbed Crinkle’s hand, and they both grabbed the edge of the blanket.
“Pull, Bao!”
Bao pulled the blanket, and with a soft pop, Taba and Crinkle flew out of the Couch Cushion Cave and landed safely on top of the sofa.
Just then, they heard footsteps approaching from the kitchen. It was Adaliz!
“Quick, leave the card on the cushion and hide!” Bao whispered.
The three squishies tumbled behind a decorative pillow just as Adaliz walked into the living room.
“Oh, there is my library card! It was on the couch all along!” Adaliz smiled, picking it up. “Let’s go get some books!”
Behind the pillow, Bao, Crinkle, and Taba gave each other a silent, squishy high-five. The library card was safe, and the Couch Cushion Caves had been conquered. Once again, The Squishy Society had saved the day!
