One day, Maisy Mouse decided to go to the library to listen to a story. The day was calm, perfect for curling up with a good book and hearing a tale. With a big smile, she put on her red coat, took her library card, and left the house. She didn’t want to miss storytime, which was today!

Maisy passed her friends as she strolled along the route.

“Maisy, where are you going?” asked Tallulah the chick.

“To the library!” Maisy said. “It’s storytime!”

“Ooh! I love stories,” said Tallulah. “Can I come too?”

“Of course!” smiled Maisy.

Along the way, they saw Charley the crocodile painting outside his house.

“Hi, Charley!” called Maisy. “We’re going to the library. Want to join?”

“Yes please!” Charley said, wiping green paint from his snout. “Let me grab my library card!”

Soon, the three friends met Cyril the squirrel and Eddie the elephant, who also wanted to come along. Everyone loved the library!

When they arrived, the warm smell of books and wooden shelves greeted them. Miss Bunny, the librarian, waved from behind the big wooden desk.

“Welcome, friends,” she said. “Storytime starts in ten minutes!”

Maisy and her friends tiptoed across the library, careful not to make too much noise.

Tallulah looked at books about rainbows. Charley found one with rockets. Cyril climbed onto a beanbag with a book about baking pies, and Eddie found a BIG book full of pictures of trucks.

Maisy chose a little book called The Sleepy Owl. It had a soft, feathery cover and sparkly stars inside. She hugged it close.

“Storytime!” called Miss Bunny gently.

Everyone gathered on the soft rug in the reading corner. There were cushions and blankets and twinkly fairy lights. The room felt magical.

With a gentle and amiable tone, Miss Bunny read aloud from a book with a bright red cover:

“There once lived a little owl that was unable to sleep on a tree so high up.”

With wide eyes and silent laughter, the friends listened. Maisy cuddled close to Tallulah. Eddie yawned quietly.

After the story, Miss Bunny clapped her paws. “Well done, everyone! What a good listening group!”

Maisy raised her paw. “Can I borrow The Sleepy Owl, please?”

“Of course,” said Miss Bunny, stamping the little blue card in the back of the book.

One by one, each friend checked out their favorite story. Cyril even borrowed a cookbook to try pie baking at home!

As they stepped back into the crisp afternoon, everyone smiled.

“That was cozy,” said Tallulah.

“I liked the owl,” said Maisy. “It made me sleepy…”

Eddie let out another yawn. “Maybe it’s bedtime for real!”

Maisy chuckled. “Let’s go home and read our stories in bed.”

Thus, Maisy and her companions strolled home beneath the golden sky, each of them bearing a book and a treasured memory from the library.

Maisy got into bed that night, opened The Sleepy Owl, and started reading.

But before she reached the second page…

…Maisy Mouse was fast asleep.
